Media Release: Principal Appointed For New Primary School In Deanside

Families in Deanside are one step closer to getting a great new local school in Term 1, 2022, with the appointment of Stuart Telford as principal of Grasslands (Deanside) Primary School (interim name).

Stuart has been appointed principal of Grasslands (Deanside) Primary School (interim name) following a thorough Department of Education and Training process to select one of Victoria’s best and brightest educators to lead the school.

He has spent the majority of his career in education within the City of Melton, as well as recent leadership roles in the Macedon Ranges and Brimbank networks. His knowledge, skills and expertise help to align schools with evidence-based practices and increased student learning opportunities.

Stuart is excited to work alongside the Deanside community to develop a high-performing primary school that has a clear focus on the academic, social and emotional needs of young people, underpinned by a culture of high expectations for all.

Grasslands (Deanside) Primary School (interim name) will cater to the diverse needs of all students and will support the needs of the growing population so students can attend a local primary school.

The state-of-the-art school is being built to accommodate 525 students from Prep to Year 6. The school will include space for students to be active, natural outdoor areas that reflect the surrounding environment, and modern learning facilities that support diverse curriculums.

When complete, the school will include an administration building, including library, art, food and science learning spaces, a performing arts and physical education building, two learning neighbourhoods, two outdoor hardcourts, a sports field, bike shed and playgrounds.

A two-room interim kindergarten will be co-located on the Grasslands (Deanside) Primary School (interim name) site and will also open in Term 1, 2022, helping parents ditch the double drop-off and ensuring a smoother transition between kindergarten and school settings. The facility is being delivered in partnership with the City of Melton, and will be in place until council’s permanent facility is built on their site next door.

Locals can now have a say on their preference for the new school’s name via the Engage Victoria website:

Following consultation, the final decision on school naming will be made by the Victorian Government.

In the past seven years, the Victorian Government has invested more than $10.9 billion in building new schools and more than 1,700 school upgrades, creating around 13,500 jobs in construction and associated industries.

It is ahead of schedule on its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 48 new schools opening between 2019 and 2022.
